Applications for the Slovak undergrad and postgrad scholarship for the batch of 2026/2027 academic year are open until July 31, 2026, at 23:59 CEST. The programme is available to talented applicants worldwide, including Slovaks living abroad, but doctoral students are not eligible.

What Successful Students Will Receive?

Selected bachelor’s students can receive €500 per month for ten months each academic year, providing up to €5,000 annually for three consecutive academic years. This brings the maximum bachelor’s-level award to €15,000.

Master’s scholarship recipients may receive the same monthly payment for two academic years, providing total support of up to €10,000.

The scholarship is intended mainly to help students manage living and study-related expenses in Slovakia. Tuition fees are not automatically covered. However, public universities may waive tuition fees for scholarship recipients enrolled in eligible foreign-language programmes, subject to the decision of the individual university.

A total of 225 scholarships are expected to be available:

  • 170 scholarships for bachelor’s or combined bachelor’s and master’s students
  • 55 scholarships for master’s students

The places are divided between universities in the Bratislava region and public universities located elsewhere in Slovakia.

Which Degrees and Subjects Are Eligible?

The scholarship supports full-time, in-person study at selected public or state higher education institutions in Slovakia and the applicants may apply for:

  • Bachelor’s degree programmes
  • Combined bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes
  • Master’s degree programmes

Eligible courses must fall within study areas connected to Slovakia’s Smart Specialisation Strategy, SK RIS3 2021+. These programmes generally support national development in strategically important fields such as engineering, technology, natural sciences, digital development, healthcare, innovation and other priority sectors.

Applicants must check whether their selected university and study programme appear on the official list of supported programmes. The scholarship cannot be used for doctoral studies, part-time courses, distance learning or programmes outside the approved subject list.

Who Can Apply for the Slovakia Scholarships?

The competition is open to international applicants from countries worldwide. Candidates must generally meet the following requirements:

  • Hold citizenship other than Slovak citizenship, although dual nationals and eligible Slovaks living abroad may apply under specific conditions
  • Have no permanent residence in Slovakia from January 1, 2021, until the application date
  • Apply for admission to an eligible public Slovak university
  • Study full-time and in person in Slovakia
  • Submit an English-language CV and motivation letter
  • Provide valid SAT or SCIO standardized-test results
  • Meet the admission requirements of the selected university

Bachelor’s applicants must normally have completed secondary education outside Slovakia and must not previously have studied at a Slovak higher education institution, except through an academic mobility programme.

Master’s applicants may qualify if they completed their bachelor’s degree abroad and are entering master’s studies in Slovakia for the first time. Students who completed a bachelor’s degree at a Slovak university may also apply when progressing directly to master’s studies, provided they meet the programme’s funding conditions.

There is no upper age limit. Applicants younger than 18 must submit written approval from a legal guardian.

SAT or SCIO Test Is Mandatory Requirement!

Academic grades, extracurricular activities and motivation letters are not the main ranking criteria in this competition. Selection is based on the applicant’s standardized-test result.

Candidates must submit one of the following:

  • An SAT score of at least 1100 points
  • An average percentile of at least 63 in the SCIO Mathematics and General Academic Prerequisites tests

Applicants scoring below the threshold will not be considered. The SAT or SCIO certificate must be uploaded before the scholarship deadline and cannot be replaced by another qualification or submitted late.

Applicants may submit results from only one testing route in a single scholarship application.

Application Deadline

The last date to apply for the Slovakia Scholarships for Talented International Students for the 2027 academic year is July 31, 2026, at 23:59 Central European Summer Time.

A complete application must include the required declarations, CV, motivation letter and valid SAT or SCIO result. Students should also apply to their preferred Slovak university without delay because scholarship selection takes place only after successful university enrolment has been verified.

With up to €15,000 available and opportunities open across selected bachelor’s and master’s programmes, this is a serious funding route for international students ready to compete on standardized-test performance and begin their studies in Slovakia during the 2026/2027 academic year.
