The Carlo Schmid Internships 2026, managed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in collaboration with the German National Academic Foundation, invite ambitious international students and young professionals from around the world to experience the inner workings of major international organizations and EU institutions.

Launched in 2001, this program has built a strong reputation for preparing globally minded individuals for careers in diplomacy, international development, governance, and policy. What Is the Carlo Schmid Program?

The Carlo Schmid Program (CSP) provides 4–8 month internships at top international organizations, NGOs, and EU institutions. Participants gain firsthand insight into global decision-making processes, international law, humanitarian coordination, development cooperation, and multilateral governance.

In addition to professional experience, interns benefit from training seminars, mentoring programs, and alumni networking events designed to strengthen intercultural understanding and global leadership skills.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be students or graduates (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral level) with a demonstrated interest in international topics.
• Be enrolled at a recognized university or have completed their studies recently.
• Possess strong academic performance and the ability to adapt to multicultural environments.
• Have excellent English skills (German or other languages may be beneficial depending on the host organization).

Duration and Locations

Internships run between four and eight (08) months, depending on the host institution’s requirements. Opportunities are available in international organizations, NGOs, and EU institutions across Europe and beyond.
