Fellowship Overview

Each year, Jesus College, Cambridge, invites applications for two (02) stipendiary Research Fellowships in the Arts. The fellowships will begin on 1 October 2026 and are tenable for three years. Eligible disciplines include:

  • Archaeology
  • Classics
  • History of Art
  • Linguistics
  • Music
  • Philosophy
  • Politics

This fellowship is designed to support researchers at an early stage of their careers, providing them with financial stability, academic recognition, and access to Cambridge’s world-class resources.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be in one of the listed disciplines within the arts and should be either:

  • Graduate students in the later stages of their PhD research, or
  • Postdoctoral researchers who have recently completed their PhD.

Candidates with more than five (05) years of full-time research experience are unlikely to be considered, although exceptions can be made in special circumstances. The fellowship seeks candidates with a strong research record and the potential to conduct research at the highest academic level.


Fellowship Benefits

Successful fellows will receive a stipend of £32,428 per year (Step 35 of the University of Cambridge salary scale). In addition, the College provides:

  • Subsidised accommodation (valued at approx. £3,556 annually).
  • A bench fee of £12,000 per year for access to university facilities.
  • Free lunch or dinner at the College.
  • Membership in the University Pension Scheme.
  • Contribution to university fees where appropriate.

This package ensures that fellows not only benefit financially but also become part of the vibrant academic and social life of the Cambridge community.

Applications must be submitted online via the Jesus College Research Fellowship portal: https://jrf.jesus.cam.ac.uk. The system allows candidates to save, edit, and track their applications. Applicants must also arrange for referees’ reports to be submitted through the system.

Application Calander

The application process for the Arts Research Fellowship 2025 at Jesus College, Cambridge will officially open on Monday, 4 August 2025. All applications, along with referees’ reports, must be completed and submitted no later than Monday, 8 September 2025, by 5:00 PM (UK time). Successful candidates will begin their fellowship on 1 October 2026.
